Glass Lined Reactor (GLR)
Glass lining is made over Mild steel or Stainless steel in manufacturing Glass Lined Reactor (GLR). Typical GLR’s have agitator assembly, vapor column, condenser and receivers and are generally jacketed. Utilities such as Cooling water, Hot water, Chilled water, Chilled Brine etc., are connected to reactor jacket and used as per the process requirements.
GLR’s are used when acidic reactions are involved and care need to be taken to avoid damaging of glass lining. Either glass condensers or graphite condensers are connected with GLR’s.
GLR’s are not preferred to be used when high pressure reaction is involved, Reaction mass is highly basic etc., Damage in glass lining is tested by performing spark test and damage can be rectified by performing glass lining again for a major damages and plugging the damage using Teflon or Tantalum in case the damage is small.
