Product Description
Fluid Bed Processors:
Fluid bed drying and processing enable the transformation from wet powder into dry powder and powder into agglomerates and granulates.
GEA Process Engineering has long been a worldwide leading supplier of fluid bed systems for drying, cooling, agglomeration, granulation, and other processing techniques. We supply systems of all sizes, both continuous and batch, depending on your needs, in a complete range of sizes and capacities, from custom-designed large process lines to self-contained laboratory and pilot units.
For specific details on our equipment, see the following:
GEA Niro VIBRO FLUIDIZER® - Sanitary Design - is a vibrating fluid bed for drying or cooling of a large range of products. It is successfully used on all types of powders, agglomerates, granulates, especially those which fluidize poorly due to a broad particle size distribution. The fluid bed can be operated as a single drying or cooling unit - often associated with a spray drying system.
Batch fluid bed drying/processing is an effective type of solid drying as the entire particle surface of each individual particulate (powder, granule, pellet, agglomerate) is being dried in the flight phase. The product is dried gently and the heat transfer is excellent. A homogeneous product temperature and a uniform drying are achieved through continuous and thorough mixing. This cannot be guaranteed in contact and radiation dryers as local hotspots often occur. Batch fluid bed systems are used wherever a very high, reproducible product quality and comprehensive process documentation are required. Batch fluid bed processors enable a very gentle product handling.
The GEA Niro CONTACT FLUIDIZER™ CFD features a compact design, high thermal efficiency and low gas throughput. This fluid bed dryer, CONTACT FLUIDIZER™ CFD, is very well suited for drying of heat sensitive products.
The GEA Niro VIBRO FLUIDIZER® fluid bed dryer/cooler has been successfully used for all types of powders, agglomerates, and granulates. This fluid bed dryer is especially suited for products with a broad particle size distribution or highly irregular shape, or which require relatively low fluidization velocities to prevent attrition. The VIBRO-FLUIDIZER™ is often used as after dryer/cooler in MSD™/FSD™ plants or directly connected to conventional spray dryers or TALL FORM DRYER™ (nozzle towers).
GEA Aeromatic-Fielder™ batch fluid bed processors for granulation, drying, pelletizing, coating, and blending. The range of Aeromatic-Fielder™ batch fluid bed processors includes small capacity systems designed for R & D as well as industrial size plants for batch production of pharmaceutical compounds under cGMP conditions. Using proven standard components, Aeromatic-Fielder™ can supply both simplicity and flexibility in plant design. User selected process options, cleaning equipment, control systems and PAT technologies combine in a system to meet process requirements exactly.
Fluid bed processors are designed to "finish" powder particles where, for example, the residual moisture content is higher than what is wanted in the final powder. Hot drying air is distributed through specially designed perforated plates, on which the powder particles/agglomerates are resting. The velocity of the drying air makes the powder `fluidize`, i.e. the particles get airborne; however, to the extent that only the finest/smallest particles leave the fluid bed with the air, while the bigger particles/agglomerates are conveyed/transported with the upward and forward directed flow of air (due to the perforation technique of the plate) into the subsequent section. Here cold and/or dehumidified is introduced to cool the powder to the wanted temperature. Fluid bed drying is suited for powders, granules, agglomerates and pellets with an average particle size between 50 microns and 5 mm.
